Quill — Woodstock 1969
Quill was a Boston-based rock band that opened Day 2 of Woodstock 1969 on Saturday, August 16. The band was formed in 1967 and had built a following in the New England rock scene before earning their spot on the Woodstock bill.
Despite performing at what would become the most famous music festival in history, Quill was not featured in Michael Wadleigh's documentary film, which significantly limited their exposure to the massive audience that would later discover Woodstock through the film.
The band's Woodstock set included originals "They Live the Life," "That's How I Eat," "Driftin'," and "Waitin' For You." Their bluesy, hard rock style fit the spirit of the era.
Quill disbanded shortly after Woodstock and remained largely forgotten until the revival of interest in the festival's lesser-known performers. Their appearance at Woodstock stands as their most historically significant moment, a reminder that even at the greatest rock festival ever held, some performers remain obscured by the towering legends that surrounded them.
